Being Firewise means your neighborhood has made great strides to lower its wildfire risk. Whether your community is new to Firewise or you've renewed your recognition status, by participating in the Firewise program in 2013, your community has played a part in the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) national campaign to create 1,000 safer places from wildfire.
Now, NFPA wants to celebrate that success with you! Join us online on Saturday, March 1, 2014 for "A Salute to the National Firewise Family" event to toast the success of all Firewise communities.
To participate, plan a place and time for your own local Firewise toast on Saturday, March 1, 2014. (NOTE: A template invitation is available on the "Salute" webpage that you can use to send to neighbors if you'd like. Just download it and fill in your own event information!)
Take a group photo or video at your event including your Firewise items. Post your pictures and stories on our Facebook page or send them to firstname.lastname@example.org for help with posting. Include the name of your community, names of the people in the photo/video, and the years you have been a recognized Firewise community. The key is to have fun and be creative with any of your Firewise banners, plaques, or your own local items to show off your wildfire safety pride.
Look for more information and updates about this national salute on our Firewise "toast" webpage. As we get closer to the date, send us your plans for the big day. We'll post the information to help encourage and inspire other Firewise communities to join in the fun!
Thanks, Firewise communities, for all of the great mitigation work you do to keep your neighborhoods safer from wildfire. Let's raise a glass and celebrate that success together! See you on Facebook on March 1, 2014!
